I recently went on an amazing journey to Haiti. During our first mission trip meeting, our leader informed me that on this trip, I would have to learn to surrender control and I would not be able to be the leader. I am absolutely a person with control issues so my first thought was .... "yeah right! We will see about that". The planning and fundraising progressed and I had no concerns about whether I could and would be a leader on this trip.
Once we landed in Port au Prince...the noise and chaos was overwhelming!! And I realized at that moment that Rob (our team leader) had been exactly correct. I knew that I was not in control. I prayed for safety and guidance. Fear swelled up and then I was introduced to Nadar.
Nadar was our facilitator send to help us through the process of getting to our next stop on the journey. Nadar has offered support to mission teams visiting Sonlight for over 30 years. He knew exactly what we needed, how much we should pay and how to manage us through customs and the dozens of people that "work" the airport trying to make money from the uneducated foreign visitors that arrive in Haiti with a compassionate heart eager to help them.
I learned from that moment that this trip would be in the hands of God. I would need to depend on Him and He would provide the people I needed to return safely to my family at the end of the week.
