Lisa and Patty Rockin' Sunday School Worship Time!! |
Sunday is a very busy day at Sonlight. The day starts with an early breakfast at 8AM and then Sunday school. There are many children in Sunday School that do not attend Sonlight School. They come from all over Port de Paix to spend time together learning about Jesus and worship. We arrived at Sunday School on Sunday morning and we each picked a class to visit and worship with. Patty, Lisa and I ended up in a large open area upstairs at the school with the 4th and 5th graders. The children, since they do not attend school at Sonlight, did not all speak English and the teacher was running a bit late. Those amazing kids made the most of that time. They got us up off of our idle butts and led us in singing and dancing. Lisa was great at recognizing the songs they were singing from the sound since they were not English. We sang, clapped, danced and laughed. After a few songs, the boys decided we needed a quick gave of "Duck, Duck, Grey Duck"! I think they won!!!
Once the teachers arrived, we experienced Sunday School Creole style. I have no idea what the lesson was or what the songs were that they sang but those children loved every minute of it!! I had a seat in the back row of chairs and this is were I experienced my first moment of the heart of a Haitian child. The little boy in front of me had his little sister with him. He sat there through that class with his arm protectively wrapped around her shoulder. It actually made me cry watching them. I am sure that my children where that sweet at some point but after you have survived the teen years, some of those precious memories fade (Sorry Perry, Morgan and Lincoln....I still love you!!)

4th and 5th Grade Sunday School Class |
Following the Creole Sunday School, we walked to the Son Center across the road to attend Sunday morning church service. The service was mostly done in Creole. So uplifting even with the language barrier. The entire congregation sang Happy Birthday to Julie from our team. She turned 50 the day we left for Haiti.
Son Center Sunday Service |
Our devotional on Sunday was about what part of God's body we are. I wrapped up this amazing day of worship wondering what in the world I was doing at an elementary school in a 3rd world country. I am not necessarily a compassionate person and I am definitely not a fan of children "STICKY FINGERS". I prayed that night on the roof for God to use me where ever he intended, to open my heart to the Haitian people....even the children. To show me the amazingness of the other parts of our "body"...my team members. I left that roof hoping that God had a plan that was better than mine.
Gods plan is better. My problem is I may not recognize His plan. He is good.
