until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:3
Every evening after our dinner at Norma's, our team of 13 met at 7PM on the roof of the Sonlight School building for a time of devotions, reflection, worship and sharing. We each received a prayer journal before we left home and each day in the journal had a scripture to read, a devotional with thoughts to discuss and room to journal our thoughts for the day.I have to say....this was one of my favorite hours of each day.
When the sun goes down and it gets dark in a city with very limited electricity....it is REALLY dark. The stars are brilliant in the dark sky and the breeze from the ocean is amazing after a long hot sweaty day. Add to that the voices of 13 amazing people singing in worship to the most amazing God! Katie did an amazing job leading us with back up music on her phone. I would like to say that separately there are a couple of really bad singers but together....WOW! I know that Jesus was weeping with joy listening to us! Night time on the roof was nothing short of beautiful!
Each night we were blessed to have Courtney lead us through prayer and discussion of the topic in our prayer journals. It was during those discussions that we were able to open up and share our souls with each other. We shared our thoughts from the days activities, interactions we experienced, fears, emotions, and blessings. We truly got to know each other, explore and appreciate the gifts that each of us offered the team and just bond.
I know that this trip to Haiti changed my life but more than anything.....this team and those 60 minutes each day on the roof had such a personal impact on me. My toughest lesson of the week happened on that roof (that is a story for another day). To Rob, Melissa, Katie, Julie, Mary,Gene, Courtney, Shawn, Patty, Lisa, Laura and Susie....I love each one of you and will forever be grateful for our 7 days together.
