And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased Hebrews 13:16
When our plane arrived in Port de Paix, we were greeted.... or should I say completely ignored by....a variety of people and animals on the gravel and grass runway that we landed on. The runway was used as a walkway, a path, a road and then shared with this plane as needed several times throughout the day.
This was my first experience of the city I would serve in for the next 6 days. It was my first moment to judge, evaluate, form an opinion. My first experience at the way the Haitian people live their every day lives. Things that we would find to be very strange like sharing a road with a landing airplane are a normal way of life in this neighborhood. The people and animals on that runway took our arrival in stride. They did not really react to us...to the plane landing. At that moment, I wondered "what do they think about sharing their lives with people like me?" Then I had that moment when I thought...they are luck that we come. Boy, was I in for some learning this week?
